[Johannesburg, 11 September 2019]: In a milestone achievement that asserts an uncompromising stance towards quality, Goscor Cleaning Equipment has attained the ISO 9001: 2015 certification.

Quality has always been a top priority at Goscor Cleaning Equipment (GCE). According to MD Gregory Venter, the recent successful ISO 9001: 2015 certification is testimony to the leading cleaning equipment supplier’s relentless focus on high levels of service, efficiency and product quality. Attained in July 2019, the standard ensures that there are processes and policies in place to give customers quality service.

“The standard provides a framework to manage one’s business and to ensure a philosophy of continuous improvement in all aspects of the business,” explains Venter. “It is externally assessed on an ongoing basis and this leaves no room for complacency. It is a showcase of our comprehensive quality levels which we maintain, while continually improving on them.”

Released in September 2015, the ISO 9001: 2015 standard expects organisations to understand their objectives before establishing a Quality Management System. This, in turn, requires them to take a completely fresh look at their current quality processes, consider the external and internal issues that affect quality, and clearly define their end goals towards achieving consistent customer satisfaction, which is already something central to GCE’s operating philosophy.

The ISO 9001:2015 standard is intended to help organisations achieve excellence through a stronger customer focus and improved business performance. The revisions to the standard will enable organisations to enhance their existing Quality Management programme by defining and documenting processes, training employees, ensuring better supply chain relationship management, adopting a risk-based approach to quality, and involving the leadership team in quality management more often.

ISO 9001:2015 is based on seven principles: Customer Focus, Leadership, Engagement of People, Process Approach, Improvement, Evidence-Based Decision-Making, and Relationship Management. However, according to the new standard, the primary focus of an organisation’s quality management programme is to meet customer requirements, and exceed expectations in terms of the quality of products and services.

Organisations would do well to comprehensively research, analyse and understand both the current and future needs of the organisation and adjust their programmes and processes to deliver these goals. Before that, however, it is important to align organisational objectives to market trends, and communicate them across the organisation. It is also essential to implement programmes and processes to measure customer satisfaction, and act on the results.

“We pulled together as a company, nationwide, to make this certification happen. I am proud that our team works hard as a cohesive unit all the time. It’s not like we had to do things differently to achieve the ISO 9001:2015 certification, but this achievement rather reflects the way GCE goes about its business 24/7/365,” says Venter.

Venter adds that being ISO certified means that GCE customers can have even more confidence in the company. “I am extremely proud of the team and their efforts in attaining the ISO9001:2015 certification. It shows that quality is not just a concept, but a reality. Our policies and procedures clearly document that, and our people demonstrate it in how they conduct their business everyday – particularly in how they engage with our customers,” concludes Venter.

[Johannesburg, 1 August 2019]: Goscor Cleaning Equipment has been appointed one of the two distributors of i-team SA’s full range of products in South Africa, allowing the leading industrial cleaning equipment provider to add an innovative product line to its offering.

Goscor Cleaning Equipment (GCE) is pleased to announce that it has expanded its product offering for the local market with i-team’s full range of products following its appointment as one of the two distributors in South Africa.

i-team SA introduced itself to the South African market at the recently-ended ISSA Cleantex Africa, which took place at Gallagher Convention Centre in Johannesburg from 04-06 June 2019. i-team Global develops and designs high-end cleaning machines, products and utilities – ranging from scrubber dryers, vacuum cleaners, gum removers, lighting solutions, microfibre pads and all-in-one cleaning islands.

i-team Global is already a Tennant partner in the United States, another leading brand that is distributed locally by GCE. This partnership represents an extension of i-team’s internationally successful 4D holistic cleaning approach. GCE will leverage its leading position in the local industrial cleaning marketplace to market the broader i-team concept and full product range.

Gregory Venter, MD of GCE, says the i-team product range – already available from GCE – is targeted at the entire GCE customer base. “This is an opportunity for GCE to further revolutionise the professional cleaning industry. This gives us both the strengths of Tennant, and the broader opportunities of the full i-team solutions bundle, thus providing the best of both worlds,” says Venter.

“With the full i-team solutions bundle, we are offering the market a full package of breakthrough technologies supporting cleaning processes that are faster, cleaner, greener, safer and better for everyone! We are capacitating our customers with cutting-edge cleaning technology that makes the world a cleaner and healthier place.”

Product range

A prominent product in the i-team range is the i-mop, a renowned example of innovation. This relatively compact machine solves problems of floor cleaning systems by combining the flexibility of a floor mop with the power and speed of industrial scrubber driers. “The i-mop family comprises three models – the i-mop Lite, the i-mop XL and the i-mop XXL,” explains Venter.

A key talking point on this range is that it cleans up to 70% faster than conventional wet mopping and is easy to use in small areas that don’t need an auto scrubber. “The i-mop and its ability to get right to the edge and under obstacles means a virtual elimination of manual operations that are required to supplement conventional machine scrubbing,” says Venter.

Other products in the i-team range include the i-scrub, i-matt, i-vac, i-wash, i-gum, i-land, i-suit, i-fibre, i-light, i-power and i-know.

[Johannesburg, 10 July 2019]: Goscor Cleaning Equipment (GCE) recently supplied – through its Nigerian dealer – two Tennant M20 combination sweeper/scrubber/driers to Sagamu Brewery of Nigeria, part of AB InBev.

In a deal that extends GCE’s reach into Africa, the leading cleaning equipment provider recently supplied two machines into Nigeria. GCE’s Nigerian dealer took delivery of the two machines in December 2018, which were later commissioned in February this year.

The two Tennant M20 combination sweeper/scrubber/driers are being used in the Sagamu Brewery warehouse to sweep and scrub floors. The machines have already proved their worth and George Jolly, sales export at GCE, who was part of the team that commissioned the machines in Nigeria, says the customer is very happy with their performance thus far.

“The Tennant M20 is a fully integrated scrubber/sweeper which can scrub or sweep a large area or simultaneously perform both functions. The M20 is ergonomically friendly for operators as the operating compartment is safe, comfortable and the unit is easy to operate,” explains Jolly.

The Tennant M20 can help reduce cost of ownership with optional innovative technologies that can clean harsh environments in a single pass. For example, system technology improves productivity by combining sweeping and scrubbing functions, reducing the need for multiple machines. The optional innovative ec-H2O technology reduces costs associated with chemical purchases and reduces water usage. The optional scrubbing side brush increases productivity by expanding the cleaning path up to 1 370 mm.

Several innovative features also provide health and safety benefits for operators, employees and customers. For example, the high-capacity, multi-level hydraulic rear hopper (110 litres), eliminates the need to manually handle debris. PerformanceView on the optional Pro-Panel allows operators to view their cleaning path without having to turn around the seat, promoting safe operation. The wet/dry synthetic fibre panel filter helps maintain air quality by delivering exceptional dust control during both wet and dry sweeping.

The machine also comes with innovative features for simplified operation and ease of maintenance. The Touch-n-Go control module featuring 1-Step start button reduces training needs by simplifying operation. Solution and recovery tanks allow for complete visible inspection and cleanout. The easy-to-identify yellow maintenance touch points and no-tool squeegee and brush access simplify maintenance.

[Johannesburg, 28 May 2019]: Due to the need for more space to accommodate the expanding business, Goscor Cleaning Equipment moved its Cape Town branch into a bigger facility at the end of April.

As a result of improved business growth, Goscor Cleaning Equipment (GCE) outgrew its previous premises, which necessitated the recent move to a new, larger facility. GCE has occupied its sister company Goscor Access Solutions’ previous premises, which has been renovated in line with the needs of the leading cleaning equipment supplier.

Previously located in Prime Park in Montague Gardens, GCE has moved to No. 5 Ferrule Avenue, Montague Gardens – effective 29 April. “The company business is growing, and we recently found ourselves in dire need of more space. This was already apparent from the time we merged with Tennant Western Cape,” explains Petra Minutelli, Branch Manager of GCE Cape Town.

The size of the new building is definitely what GCE required. “We now have a larger workshop area, which we really needed, especially for our growing short-term rental fleet, our rebuilds, a larger stock room for improved stock holding and possibly a showroom / demo area. With the larger premises, there will be lots of new and exciting things to come,” adds Minutelli.

Minutelli says the new premises is of extreme significance to the business. “It is extremely important – with the added space we have much more capacity for growth. This is very much in line with our commitment to delivering quality equipment solutions and unparalleled backup support to our customers,” concludes Minutelli.

[Johannesburg, 9 May 2019]: The Maer range of high-pressure washers will prominently feature at Goscor Cleaning Equipment’s stand at NAMPO 2019. High-pressure washers have traditionally found favour in the agricultural community as farmers seek to keep their large capital equipment units dirt-free, thereby reducing maintenance costs and downtime.

At this year’s Grain SA’s NAMPO Harvest Day – to be held between 14 and 17 May at Bothaville, Free State – Goscor Cleaning Equipment (GCE), the leading provider of industrial equipment solutions in South Africa, will largely showcase its Maer range of industrial high-pressure cleaners. This will be complemented by some vacuum cleaners and floor scrubbers – solutions that speak directly to farmers’ cleaning needs.

Peter Esterhuizen, National Sales Director at GCE, says high-pressure washers are integral to the farming community as these machines help farmers keep their big-ticket and mission critical machinery such as agricultural combine harvesters, crop sprayers and tractors clean. “High-pressure washers ensure that these big and expensive machines are maintained properly by removing any dirt particulates and general grime on a daily basis in wash bays, thus reducing maintenance costs and, of course, downtime,” says Esterhuizen.

This year’s NAMPO comes at a time when the farming community is battling several challenges, including droughts and poor yields. Esterhuizen says it is for this reason that keeping costs under control should be a major priority for farmers.

“Keeping maintenance costs down and reducing downtime is essential for farmers – they invest huge amounts of capital on big agricultural equipment that often operates in very dusty and sometimes muddy conditions. These conditions result in a lot of wear and tear on components if not controlled, so keeping these machines clean on a daily basis is a must,” he says.

The Maer range includes electric, petrol and diesel-driven versions from 220 V to 380 V, and pressure ratings of anywhere between 100 to 500 bar. The premium Italian-manufactured pressure washers are particularly robust in design, easy to operate, durable and fitted with the durable Interpump.

GCE experts will be on hand to discuss some of the key trends in the agricultural industry.    “Lowering cost of ownership will particularly be a key topic of discussion this year. This is achievable by purchasing suitable, reliable and durable equipment that can be serviced and repaired countrywide. GCE provides the highest level of product and service excellence due to its extensive branch and dealership network throughout South Africa,” concludes Esterhuizen.

[Johannesburg, 12 April 2019]: As part of its belief that much of a country’s success lies in the involvement of corporates in their communities, the Goscor Group has extended a helping hand to four needy charities with a R30 000 donation to each of them.

That much of a country’s success lies in the involvement of corporates in the communities they operate is no overstatement. Because of the economic power big businesses hold, they are in a position to make a real difference when it comes to helping society deal with an array of challenges it faces.

“At Goscor, we believe that business should be an active citizen. This should be motivated by the desire to contribute to building better communities. It is rooted in our understanding that business is not separate from society, but inextricably bound to the fortunes of its people,” says Goscor Group CEO Neil Wilson.

Wilson is of the view that any corporation’s CSI initiative shouldn’t be driven by regulation, but by the company’s desire and commitment to the well-being of the society it serves. He adds that companies can exhibit their inherent, welfare-creating strength by means of words and action. By actively tackling issues that affect society, individual companies can show that voluntary efforts are more effective than regulation.

“At Goscor, we believe that business is the cornerstone of prosperity in society. Apart from creating jobs, offering goods, services and processes, as well as investing in the skills of our employees, we have always gone the extra mile to make a difference in other parts of communities we operate in,” he says.

With that in mind, the Goscor Group has made R30 000 donations to four recommended charities. Three of the benefitting charities are based in Gauteng and one in Cape Town. The three Gauteng charities are Little Eden, TLC Charity and El-Shammah, and the Cape Town beneficiary is The Enez Foundation.

Little Eden

Based in Edenvale, Gauteng, Little Eden was started 51 years ago by Domitilla and Danny Hyams with three children and a R10 donation. The charity organisation now has two care centres where it looks after 300 profoundly intellectually and physically disabled children and adults.

“At our Edenvale facility we care for 180 children and adults that are totally dependent on our caregivers who are responsible for the activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing and feeding. At our Bapsfontein home we care for 120 residents that are better functioning even though many are in wheelchairs and need extra care,” explains Zai Miller, development officer at Little Eden.

Little Eden aims to develop persons with intellectual disabilities to their full potential. “Of our 300 children most were abandoned and neglected or come from indigent families that are unable to care for them or support them financially. The majority at Little Eden are in specially-adapted wheelchairs and need care day and night. We are grateful to Goscor for its helping hand. The R30 000 donation, which we received in December 2018, really went a long way towards our budget,” adds Miller.

El-Shammah Home

Located in Primrose, Germiston, El-Shammah Home was officially opened on 13 May 2009.  Its main objective and vision is to care for abandoned and unwanted babies from new born to approximately 18 months of age.

“The mission of the home is to facilitate a safe and neat home environment where the babies can find a place of love, care and protection and where they can experience true motherly nourishment physically, spiritually and emotionally through full time qualified and trained care givers on a 24/7 basis,” explains Merencia Scholtz, project manager at El-Shammah.

At full capacity the three bedroom home can accommodate 12 babies. The past two and a half years have posed a great need for the facility in the surrounding communities as babies are regularly brought into the home by the South African Police Service (SAPS) and various social workers and child welfare organisations.

“As a non-profit organisation, El-Shammah Home fully depends on public donations to keep its doors open and deliver the specialised service to precious needy children. Sometimes it is not easy due to limited financial means which constrains the effective operation and vision of the home. We thank Goscor for its donation, which has truly made a difference to the home,” says Scholtz.

TLC Children’s Home

Located in Bronkhorstfontein, Eikenhof, Gauteng, TLC Children’s Home was founded by the Jarvis family in 1993. It began with the mission to provide a refuge for any baby or child in need of care, whether because they have been abandoned, neglected, orphaned or abused.

“While in our care we provide a holistic and individual development plan focused on each child’s unique needs. Today we are one of the most reputable child and youth care centres in Johannesburg and are able to accommodate 32 infants and children under the age of three years old,” says Pippa Jarvis, MD of TLC.

To this day, the Jarvis family still plays a huge role, not only in the running of, but also in the environment at TLC. Over the last two and half decades, Thea Jarvis and her two oldest daughters, Joanna and Pippa, have adopted 38 children. With the family home and the nursery occupying different wings of the same building, much of what happens in the nursery intertwines with the family dynamics and vice versa.

The family also relies on the generous support of the TLC community to help raise and provide opportunities for the children and young adults that have grown up as permanent members of the Jarvis family. They remain beneficiaries of TLC until they are able to support themselves as independent adults. “We thank Goscor for its R30 000 donation to TLC. The donation goes a long way in supporting our efforts to ensure each child’s stay with us is as comfortable as possible,” says Thea Jarvis, founding director of TLC.

The Enez Foundation

The Enez Foundation provides services in substance abuse, which include individual and family counselling, group and employee workshops that are designed to assist the individual, their family members, colleagues and educators. It also assists with the reintegration of the substance abuser into the family system.

Providing service in areas like Paarl, Stellenbosch, Somerset-West and Malmesbury, The Enez Foundation is the only resource centre of its nature for families in the northern suburbs of Cape Town.

“We believe that education and empowerment of our society as a whole is the only way to positively assist those tormented by addiction and those affected by it. A successful medium is reached when we engage our clients in psycho-educational workshops and thereafter follow up with individual counselling,” explains Shanet Regal, director of The Enez Foundation.

The Enez Foundation strives to empower affected families by educating them about addiction and its effects. It also provides support to spouses, parents, partners and children affected by addiction. Its mission is to provide affordable counselling services to families and substance abusers and to offer workshops that highlight the effects of addiction on family members; the impact of it in the workplace; government sector, education systems, including tertiary institutions; as well as churches and communities at large.

“Building strong recovery community organisations is one way to break feelings of isolation and shame, build strong relationships and advocate for the solutions that we know work. As a grassroots organisation, we thrive in developing recovery leaders, offer opportunities to express a collective voice and provide a forum for community service. The Goscor donation will definitely go a long way in enhancing our capacity,” concludes Regal.

[Johannesburg: 14 March 2019] Latest on Goscor Cleaning Equipment’s arrival yard is the T600e walk-behind floor scrubber, part of Tennant’s T600 family which delivers exceptional cleaning performance with durable design and a suite of productivity-boosting features.

Leading industrial cleaning equipment solutions provider, Goscor Cleaning Equipment (GCE), has launched the new Tennant T600e walk-behind floor scrubber in South Africa. The first units of the model arrived in the country in the fourth quarter of 2018.

The T600e forms part of the T600 family, which also comprises the T600 and the T600EE. However, Peter Esterhuizen, National Sales Director at GCE, says only the T600e will be readily available for the South African market and the other two models will be available on demand.

GCE is targeting the BSC, industrial and warehousing sectors with the new T600e. “The T600e replaces the 5680, which was a trusted and loved unit in the industry, renowned for its robust and durable build,” says Esterhuizen.

Key features

The new T600e comes with an innovative suite of technologies and productivity-boosting features to drive cleaning performance and efficiency. The new industrial-strength scrubber offers an ideal solution for cleaning companies looking for consistent quality cleaning results they can count on even in the harshest of environments.

The scrubber promises to deliver the high-quality, high-performance advantages that have become synonymous with the Tennant name. “One of the key features is its increased versatility – customers can virtually clean any hard floor surface with a wide range of cleaning heads, including an orbital option,” says Esterhuizen.

A large-capacity 121-litre solution tank and 140-litre recovery tank allow users to scrub longer between empty and fill cycles, thus ensuring longer runtime. Operation is simplified by the easy-to-understand controls featuring variable speed control bail, propel toggle and speed setting within easy reach.

Easy maintenance is also a major design focus. “Preventative maintenance is simplified by easy-to-identify yellow maintenance touch points,” explains Esterhuizen.

Meanwhile, Tennant’s ec-H2O NanoClean® technology is also available as an option on the new T600e. It electrically converts water into an innovative, detergent-free solution that cleans effectively, saves money and reduces environmental impact compared to daily floor cleaning chemicals. The converted water is created by an on-board e-cell that generates millions of tiny microscopic bubbles known as nanobubbles that promote the cleaning efficacy of the solution.

With safety in mind, Tennant is the only company that has a listed Type EE battery-powered floor cleaning machine for use in a number of special hazardous environments.

[Johannesburg, 12 November 2018]: Leading southern African cleaning equipment supplier, Goscor Cleaning Equipment, notes that water-efficient cleaning equipment has become more sought-after, especially considering the persistent water use restrictions and permitting challenges.

To manage a sustainable contract cleaning business, efficiency is undoubtedly one of the key pieces of the puzzle. Industrial and commercial cleaners are seeking efficiency in everything they buy, especially water-efficiency, given that it has become a very scarce natural resource, not only in South Africa, but across the world. Consequently, Gregory Venter, MD of Goscor Cleaning Equipment (GCE), reports that there is a growing demand for innovative cleaning technologies to conserve water.

Water-saving has never been this important. In recent years, water has become a pressing issue. For instance, South Africa needs to invest at least R33-billion each year for the next 10 years to ensure water security, or run the risk of dams running dry, according to the Department of Water and Sanitation. The recent drought conditions in some of the provinces in South Africa, mainly the Western and Eastern Cape regions, are clear signs that the water crisis reality is hitting home.

“It is, therefore, imperative for water-intensive businesses to start investigating ways to reduce their consumption. At GCE, we have always been ahead of the curve when it comes to the provision of top quality water-saving cleaning technologies that can boost our customers’ profitability. For example, within our Tennant range, we have two technologies – ec-H2O NanoClean and ES (Extended Scrubbing) – that definitely set a new era in water efficiency,” explains Venter.

Leading tech

Venter notes that ‘Detergent-free’ cleaning is a big trend in the commercial cleaning sector as the professional cleaning industry continues to find ways to get the better of water woes.

For example, with Tennant’s ec-H2O NanoClean technology – which electrically converts water into an innovative, detergent-free solution that cleans effectively – customers can save money, while reducing their environmental impact compared with daily floor cleaning chemicals. “The converted water is created by an on-board e-cell that generates millions of tiny microscopic bubbles known as nanobubbles that promote the cleaning efficacy of the solution,” says Venter.

GCE also offers Tennant’s Extended Scrubbing (ES) technology, which recycles cleaning solutions through a three-stage filtering system, to extend scrubbing time. “Scrubber-dryers equipped with the ES system can recycle cleaning solutions, resulting in extended scrubbing uptime and improved productivity. This allows for scrubbing and decreased water consumption and disposal by up to 66%,” he says.

Away from Tennant, GCE also offers Kaivac’s OmniFlex Dispense-and-Vac system, which is ideal for the heaviest soil and grease conditions. It dispenses very little water with a spigot and agitating brush. Apart from being up to 60 times better at removing soil and contaminants than mopping, it also uses considerably less water than a conventional spaghetti mop, for example.

“Previously, the focus on efficiency has largely been placed on energy efficiency. While saving energy is important, conserving water is equally, if not more important. Using less water keeps money in your pocket. By utilising basic water conservation techniques, you are able to save thousands of litres of water each year. Bear in mind that the world has limited supplies of fresh water, and surely every drop counts,” concludes Venter.

[Johannesburg, 8 October 2018]: With Delfin’s range of DG EXP three-phase industrial vacuum cleaners, Goscor Cleaning Equipment (GCE) is offering a game-changing industrial vacuuming solution for all areas of application, from dust to liquid and solid material.

The Delfin DG EXP family of industrial vacuum cleaners – the DG 30 EXP, DG 50 EXP, DG 70 EXP and DG 75 EXP – sets a new era in industrial cleaning with its three-phase vacuum prowess. Available in South Africa from leading cleaning equipment supplier, GCE, the DG EXP is ideally suited for dust, solid and liquid materials, and ranges from 2,2 to 7,5 kW.

The three-phase vacuum cleaners comprise three major components – the suction unit, filter unit and collection unit. The suction unit is a side channel blower, with direct coupling between the motor and the impeller fan. It is designed without any transmission system, and is therefore silent, totally maintenance-free and suitable for continuous duty operations. “A vacuum gauge enables constant checking of the suction performance, and detecting of possible clogging of the filter,” explains Peter Esterhuizen, National Sales Director at GCE.

The standard filter cleaning mechanism is operated by an external lever that shakes the filter vertically and enables the filter to be cleaned thoroughly and safely, maintaining constant suction performance and preventing any dispersion of dust in the environment.

“The large surface star filter, located inside the filter chamber, is made of polyester and provides high resistance against clogging and passage of fine dust. A vacuum gauge enables the operator to constantly check the state of the filter and detect possible clogging, warning the operator that the filter must be cleaned, dependent on the type and quantity of dust ,additional filtration and cleaning options are available such as self-purging cartridge filters,” says Esterhuizen.

The third crucial part of the vacuum cleaner is the collection unit (100 litres). The vacuumed material is collected into a wheeled steel detachable container, which can be extracted for easy disposal and can be used with optional disposable bags, for safer and handier disposal. “The vacuum is mounted on a sturdy steel chassis with pivoting wheels, one of which has brakes,” says Esterhuizen.

The range

With a 2,2 kW side channel blower, suction inlet diameter of 80 mm and 124 kg of weight, the DG 30 EXP finds application in almost any industry and professionals sector. Large capacity, power and robustness make it a safe investment for any enterprise. A major talking point is the maintenance-free motor suitable for 24/7 continuous duty. It can vacuum dust, liquid and solid material at the same time. It can be deployed in the food industry, aluminium and PVC, metalworking, vehicle cleaning and surface preparation.

The DG 50 EXP comes with a 4 kW side channel blower and weighs in at 137 kg. Its application range includes the food industry, aluminium and PVC, paper industry, building and construction, metalworking, vehicle cleaning and surface preparation.

Equipped with a 5,5 kW maintenance-free side channel blower, and weighing in at 146 kg, the DG 70 EXP can be deployed across several applications, including rubber, plastics, vehicle cleaning, surface preparation, textile, metalworking, building and construction, paper, aluminium and PVC, as well as the food industry.

The model DG 75 EXP sets a new era in its category, both in terms of power and performances. Weighing in at 170 kg, it comes with a 7,5 kW maintenance-free side channel blower. Its excellent suction performances combined with its compactness and high filtration efficiency, make it suitable for application in any industrial field. “Its application range includes shipyards, aviation, food industry, electronics, building and construction, rubber, leather, wood and surface preparation,” concludes Esterhuizen.

[Johannesburg, 3 October 2018]: Having taken delivery of the very first Guzzler vacuum truck in the country some five years ago, a leading coal export terminal has purchased the second unit from Goscor Cleaning Equipment, the sole supplier of the Guzzler brand in South Africa.

Five years ago, a leading South African coal export terminal bought its first Guzzler vacuum truck from local sole supplier, Goscor Cleaning Equipment (GCE). Having experienced the benefits of this premium vacuum truck, the company has since taken delivery of its second unit, which also becomes the second unit to be ever sold in South Africa.

Gregory Venter, MD of GCE, explains that the unit will be deployed to remove spillages from coal chutes and around the facility, as well as for sludge removal from the pits. “The client has an existing unit and, having had a great experience running it for the past five years, requested for the exact same unit to match the performance of the existing one,” says Venter. “The pits where they vacuum spillages from are about 10 m deep, and the vacuum performance of the Guzzler ensures that they are able to clear up the spillages timeously and efficiently.”

In line with the client’s requirements, GCE had to ensure that the supplied unit was corrosive-proof due to the environment and the corrosive nature of the product recovered on site. “We also had to reinforce the boom to be able to handle the weight and volume the client would be vacuuming from the deep pits,” adds Venter.

With an apparent increasing demand for large vacuum trucks in the country, the Guzzler vacuum truck line represents leading technology for today’s environmental protection. Guzzler is a leading manufacturer of vacuum trucks designed to efficiently clean up industrial waste.

Guzzler vac trucks are designed to vacuum a full spectrum of materials – from solids and dry bulk powders, to liquids, slurries and thick sludge – across industrial areas such as coal terminals, cement plants, steel mills, railroads, oil refineries, chemical plants, foundries and power stations, among others. One of the key talking points on the supplied unit is the effective dust control capability offered by the 4-cyclone system.

GCE will offer full support for the complete unit supplied to the coal terminal, in conjunction with Navistar International. “We will offer full support of the ‘back-end’ of the truck, while Navistar will service and maintain the chassis,” concludes Venter.

[Johannesburg, 2 October 2018]: Driven by its desire to maintain clean streets in communities where it operates, Goscor Cleaning Equipment recently deployed resources to help clean Johannesburg CBD streets ahead of the FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN.

Ahead of the FNB Joburg 10K City Run, which coincided with Heritage Day on the 24th of September, Goscor Cleaning Equipment (GCE) deployed its innovative cleaning equipment and staff to help clean the streets of Joburg on Saturday 22 September. Joining Goscor for this noble initiative were several companies that took part in the City Run.

Gregory Venter, MD of GCE, says it’s important for businesses to play an active role in communities they operate in. GCE also undertook a same initiative ahead of the FNB Cape Town 12 ONERUN, which took place in May this year. The company will also embark on a same initiative ahead of the FNB Durban 10K CITYSURFRUN, scheduled for the 14th of October this year. The three races form part of the FNB Run Your City Series.

Ahead of the Joburg event, GCE cleaned the inner city streets where the race was going to be run. Starting at the FNB Bank City, the route twisted and turned through streets such as Lilian Ngoyi, Jeppe, Wanderers, Eloff, Jan Smuts, Nelson Mandela Bridge and Miriam Makeba, before finishing at the Mary Fitzgerald Square in Newtown.

“At Goscor we believe that business always needs to give back to society. Our team in Cape Town had such a great day out when we had the same cleaning initiative ahead of the FNB Cape Town 12 ONERUN in May this year. The experience also helped them to better understand the plight of the less fortunate,” says Venter.

Venter adds that not only does street cleaning improve the aesthetics of the city, but it reduces the risk of accidents during the race. Clearing the streets of debris minimises slip and fall accidents, as well as protecting people from dangerous garbage like rusty nails and broken glass.

Venter also believes that the initiative offers a great platform for GCE to showcase the effectiveness of its range of cleaning equipment, mainly the government departments in the three city centres that the FNB Run Your City Series takes place.

Machines on duty

GCE deployed its big MACRO road sweeper. MACRO street sweepers are the most advanced and performing machines for continuous professional use currently available on the market. For years, MACRO technology has focused on four objectives: simple use, consumption reduction, low environmental impact and fast return on investment.

“With our MACRO M60, for example, very large volumes of dry waste can be collected – 6 m³ hopper and 6 000 kg payload is the highest capacity on the market, allowing long working shifts,” explains Venter. “The machine also offers exclusive capability to sweep in unbalanced conditions like sidewalks. The system allows to sweep on bumps with no operator’s action required.”

Joining the MACRO Road sweeper was GCE’s Green Machine Litter Pickups. From downtown spaces to city parks, this popular line of Green Machines equipment is compact enough to clean almost any outdoor space. “Our Green Machines 400 Series runs with less fuel and noise thanks to its Kubota diesel engine. The machine allows you to cover more area in less time due to reduced dump cycles by compacting waste down to 33% of its original size,” says Venter.

The combined power of the 400 Series’ compaction fan, two-stage dust filtration and water dust control system, allows for trapping of virtually any dust, dirt or debris. The 400 Series’ pulverising impeller devours debris, reducing leaves and litter to one-third of its original size and broken glass to harmless particles the size of rock salt.

With the two-stage Dust Filtration, each stage takes dust out of the airflow. Inside the debris bag, nylon debris screen directs particles and debris down into a standard plastic garbage bag. The washable filter bag controls and contains the fine dust. “The spray jets located on each of the 400 series sweeping brushes and inside the suction tube provide added dust control and can be used to dispense a fragrance in the work area,” concludes Venter.

[Johannesburg, 25 July 2018]: No matter how small the action is, Mandela Day is about making a difference to change the world for the better, just as Nelson Mandela did every day. Driven by that principle, on this year’s Mandela Day, Goscor Cleaning Equipment (GCE), together with its employees, partnered Wollies animal shelter to make a difference in the lives of abandoned animals at the shelter.

Nelson Mandela’s famous words, “what counts in life is not the mere fact that we lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others” reminds us that as a nation, companies and individuals, we have to extend a loving and kind hand. It is in this spirit of Madiba and his vision to make the world a better one for all that saw GCE and its employees partner Wollies animal shelter at this year’s Mandela Day to make a difference in the lives of abandoned animals at the shelter.

GCE employees contributed a handful of food donations towards the cause, which were handed over to the shelter on the 18th of July. According to George Jolly, Key Account Executive at GCE, in the previous years, GCE has always cleaned puppy cages at the shelter on Mandela Day and this year the company focused on food donations for the shelter.

Arnel Kaplan, Volunteer at Wollies animal shelter, commends GCE and its employees for their kindness. “Wollies animal shelter would love to thank GCE and its employees, as well as every other company and individual who donated food and accessories. The donations make an enormous difference in the lives of our animals and it is much appreciated,” she says.

Kaplan explains that on this year’s Mandela Day, Wollies animal shelter opened its doors to schools and companies that wanted to spend the day making a difference in the lives of abandoned animals at the shelter. “We gave each visitor the opportunity to create precious memories, and at the same time we made them aware of the significance of animal care,” she says.

All visitors, including representatives from GCE, were taken for a tour through the shelter and were then divided into smaller groups, with each one of them given an opportunity to take a dog for a walk and play on an obstacle course.

Reflecting on the day, Kaplan says Mandela Day is about bringing people together as a nation to spend time together doing amazing things. “Ghandi said ‘the spirit of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated’. This motto rang true at Wollies animal shelter on this year’s Mandela Day. Our animals were treated with respect and dignity and were given loads of love and attention,” says Kaplan.
