As we all know, social media has become an integral part of our everyday lives and it is important that we always keep up with the trends to ensure they go hand in hand with our strategies and make our clients stand out from their competitors. Our social media team has identified some trends to look out for in 2020:

1 Instagram will remove likes
Instagram is one of the largest social networks and any major changes implemented here can shape the social media landscape. One such major change is the possibility of Instagram removing the likes feature for posts.
The removal of likes will make it more difficult for brands to measure the impact of their campaign as easily as they do which will force brands to invest in Instagram ads so that they are able to track ROI for their campaigns.

2 Influencer marketing will continue to grow
We all know that influencer marketing is not a new trend, however it is one that will stay on for a while. Social media today is dominated by influencer who are paid to promote brands.
Investing in influencers is cheaper than running paid ad campaigns and it delivers good results. Moreover, influencers can help marketers achieve a variety of marketing goals and not just generate leads.

3 Video content will dominate
Video content is one of the most engaging forms of content and will soon dominate the social media a clear winner over all other types of content.
If you’re not currently creating videos, now is the time that you include it in your content strategy. Soon, videos will dominate social media and anyone who doesn’t realise that will have a tough time.

4 Stories Will Become Marketers Darlings
For a while, Stories were exclusive to Snapchat, but then Instagram and Facebook Stories came out, and now even YouTube has its own stories format.   Stories can provide viewers with more authentic insight, as the videos are often created on the spot. And there’s a huge range of opportunities in the Stories format. Since Stories content vanishes rather rapidly, this is the ideal time for advertisers to profit on the fear of missing out (FOMO) and to offer deals and sales that loyal customers will look out for.

5 Augmented Reality
AR technology is slowly developing, with expanded application for eCommerce, product discover, special offers, and more. There’s a heap of ways in which AR can be utilized, and while thus far its usage has been limited, due to technological limitations and/or cost, the barriers for entry are coming down. Expect this to be a big shift in 2020.
